Frequently Asked
Questions

These are the questions we hear most often from homeowners, contractors, designers, developers, property managers, and fleet operators. Use this page as a starting point, then visit the relevant service or resource page for more project-specific detail.

Quotes & Pricing

No. Standard quote requests are free. For many projects, Fine Edge can quote from photos, dimensions, drawings, or a clear written scope. In larger or more complex situations, a field measure or site visit may be recommended before final pricing is issued. If a paid field visit is ever required, that will be discussed in advance rather than added as a surprise.

There is no universal price because cost depends on material, thickness, finish, complexity, quantity, hardware, and whether installation is included. A simple repair or bracket set will price very differently from a staircase, structural package, or fleet build. Fine Edge provides project-specific pricing so the real scope is understood.

The most helpful items are dimensions, photos, drawings, file types such as PDF or DXF when available, project location, target timeline, and whether you need fabrication only or full installation. If you are still early in the process, a rough sketch and a written description are still better than waiting until everything is perfect.

Different shops do not always scope the same way. One quote may exclude installation, hardware, finish work, field adjustments, or project management while another includes them. Material grades and finish systems also affect price. Fine Edge aims to quote honestly to the actual job rather than making the first number look artificially low.

Drawings, Files & Scope

Fine Edge can review common fabrication-friendly file types such as PDF, DXF, DWG, and standard photo/image formats. If you are not sure whether your file will work, send it anyway and we will confirm the best next step.

That is common. You can still start with a written description, site photos, and dimensions if you have them. For some projects, Fine Edge can work from field measurements, reference images, or a design conversation before formal drawings are required.

Yes. The quote and upload flows are designed to help you send project information early so quoting is faster and more accurate. Large or unusual files may still need to be sent by email or linked through a file-sharing service when necessary.

Yes. Fine Edge can fabricate from approved design documents, shop drawings, or clearly scoped project files. For some projects, Fine Edge can also support design-assist conversations, but final design responsibility remains with the appropriate design professional where required.

Materials & Finishes

Fine Edge commonly works with carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, along with related sheet, tube, plate, hardware, and fabricated assemblies. Specific grades and thicknesses depend on the project.

The best finish depends on the environment and the material. For many standard exterior steel applications, a properly prepared and coated system can work well. In harsher coastal conditions, aluminum or 316 stainless may be the better choice. Fine Edge can recommend an appropriate combination based on exposure, appearance goals, and budget.

In many cases, yes. Powder coat colors, standard finish directions, and comparable visual targets can often be matched closely. For unique decorative effects or specialty finishes, availability and lead time should be confirmed early.

Yes. Fine Edge is open to coastal and marine-adjacent work, especially when the correct materials and finish expectations are established up front. Salt-air and high-exposure environments require more deliberate choices than standard sheltered installations.

Scheduling, Delivery & Installation

Lead time depends on project size, material availability, finishing requirements, shop load, and installation scheduling. Small jobs can move quickly, while larger structural, fleet, or multi-phase projects require a longer window. Fine Edge will give a project-specific timeline rather than making a generic promise that does not match the real workload.

Yes, for many project types. Fine Edge can provide fabrication only or supply-and-install depending on the job. Installation scope should be confirmed at quote stage so access, substrate, sequencing, and hardware expectations are all clear.

Yes. Fine Edge primarily serves Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach County, with delivery and installation coordinated according to scope, schedule, and job requirements.

Yes, where appropriate. Multi-unit, fleet, repeat-order, and project-phase work can often be staged to reduce disruption and keep production aligned with the broader schedule.

Permits, Code & Responsibility

Permit responsibility depends on the project type, municipality, and contract structure. Fine Edge can coordinate with owners, contractors, and design professionals, but permit and code obligations should be confirmed for each project rather than assumed.

No fabricator should promise universal approval without understanding the full project, the jurisdiction, and the supporting design documents. Fine Edge builds with code-conscious discipline, but official interpretation and approval always rest with the authority having jurisdiction and, where applicable, the licensed design professional.

Yes, at a practical planning level. Fine Edge can flag common permit-trigger issues and help point the client toward the right next step. Final permit determination still belongs to the local jurisdiction and project professionals.

For many jobs, yes. Site measurement and field verification can be part of the project process when needed. The exact approach depends on scope, location, and whether Fine Edge is supplying fabrication only or full installation. For work that requires a crew on-site (gate installs, structural field welding, stair repairs), see Mobile Welding & On-Site Repairs.

Service Area & Travel

Fine Edge is based in South Florida and primarily serves Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach County.

Yes, for the right opportunity. Fine Edge is open to select projects elsewhere in Florida and beyond when the scope, logistics, and fit make sense.

No. South Florida remains the primary service market. Travel work is selective and project-dependent, not the main market identity.

Outside South Florida?

We are open to qualified opportunities elsewhere in Florida and beyond. Send your location, scope, and timeline for review and we will let you know if it is a fit.
